The Right People at The Right Time...

I’ve just returned to the Beyond Ourselves office after two weeks away and it has been so good to catch up on all that’s been happening in Zambia these past two weeks. If you haven’t yet had the chance to read about the Staff training days or the Grade 7’s first ever school trip then I encourage you to stop reading this right now and scroll down to those posts! It’s well worth the extra few minutes…

While I’ve been away, I’ve had time to think about a few things and something that struck me (and not for the first time) is how we as a team have always been blessed with some amazing connections; the right people coming along at just the right time to help make something happen.

And right now is no different.

Just this past month we have met with an amazing group of business people who are passionate about using business to see transformation in communities and lives. They aim to “bring about genuine, lasting socio-economic change as people are taught and empowered to help themselves”.

Our vision at Beyond Ourselves is to see more social enterprises and income generating activities set up around each school so that people are trained and employed as well as profits provided to help support the schools.  So we are extremely thankful to have made this connection with people who share our heart and can potentially work alongside us to make this happen.

Another exciting connection this month has been with a woman who runs an organisation providing washable sanitary pads and knickers for girls who don’t have access to such products. (Sorry guys!)

For several months now, we as a team have been discussing the various ways we could address this situation facing the older girls at our partner schools so that they don’t have to miss school for a few days every month. And so we are more than a little excited to have been introduced to this woman and work towards providing these products to our girls. It will be life changing!

So, like I said the right people at the right time – pretty amazing really!
